How to Make your Regular Shoes Water Resistant?

A pair of high quality shoes is usually expensive and they ultimately become more expensive if you have to throw them too early. Even the finest material can wear out if it’s not protected from unfavorable external conditions like moisture or dryness. Prolonged exposure to water or moisture affects the waterproof covering of the shoes and you have to renew it in order to keep your shoes and the material protected from damage.

Your shoes need cleaning and water proofing between the April showers and snow rampage in fall. Although most boots are made with waterproof Gore-tex membrane but it will eventually breakdown with you wearing them on moist surfaces every day. Little by little the covering fades and your feet are no longer protected from moisture especially when you are spending a significant amount of time on wet areas or swamps while trekking. As a result, your feet may turn cold causing you to catch cold.

At times, you may need to pass your shoes through the waterproofing process before first wear like when you’ve bought snake skin, fish skin, and Italian silk or suede shoes. These materials are most likely to be damaged if they get wet and the moisture stays for even a little time. Thus, to increase the lifespan of the shoes and keep them shinier waterproofing is mandatory. But, how’d you waterproof the shoes you already own and keep them protected from damaging moisture?

Tips to keep Make Your Shoes Water-Proof
Consider the following simple steps to make your shoes waterproof according to the type of material your boots or shoes are made from.

Fabric Boots
For this hack you will need a candle or beeswax, rubber gloved, hair dryer and water spray to test your shoes for water splashes.
1.     Wear the rubber gloves to firmly grab the beeswax or candle and rub it against the surface of your fabric shoes. Make sure the entire surface is evenly covered.
2.     Next, use your blow dryer to seal in the wax, letting it melt and dry. Allow the wax to sit for at least five to ten minutes before wearing.
3.     Now do the splash test before stepping outside with your shoes. You’ll be surprised how you just turned your casual fabric shoes into water repeller!

For Leather Boots
A Waterproof shoe spray can be easily found and with just one application your leather boots/shoes are ready to hit watery surfaces. Usually, most waterproof spray for boots contain silicone and the formula is set to form a barrier outside the surface of your shoes.

The best thing about shoe waterproof spray is that the shoe material or leather of any kind is not affected and the material and color of the fabric is not affected.
However, having the waterproofing spray for shoes is not all you need it’s important to be aware of the right usage. Thoroughly clean your shoes with a shoe cleaner or damp cloth before spraying. Also cover if there are any jewels or embellishments because the formula might be damaging to these.

Overall, just by keeping your footwear protected from moisture or water you can not only keep the quality maintained but also increase the life expectancy beyond usual.
